Ameren outlines major generation and storage expansion for rising power demand
Ameren ($AEE) Missouri updated its 20-year resource plan to accommodate electricity demand, including signed agreements covering 2.8 gigawatts of aggregate large-load requirements by 2030. Near-term proposals include 2.4 gigawatts of battery storage by 2030, 1.9 gigawatts of simple-cycle gas generation by 2029 and 2.1 gigawatts of combined-cycle gas generation by 2031. Additional solar, wind and fuel-cell capacity is also contemplated.
The plan could support a substantial investment programme and a larger regulated asset base, but remains a resource-planning document rather than blanket construction authorization. Ameren also envisages 1.2 gigawatts of new nuclear generation by 2040 without yet selecting a site or reactor technology. Project economics, approvals, construction execution and cost recovery remain important constraints. Contracted future electricity requirements are not the same as revenue already earned or completed generating capacity.
