Amgen–AstraZeneca combination cuts lung-cancer mortality risk by 58%
Amgen ($AMGN) disclosed detailed Phase 3 results showing that adding Imdelltra to AstraZeneca ($AZN)’s Imfinzi reduced the risk of death by 58% in first-line maintenance treatment of extensive-stage small-cell lung cancer. Median overall survival reached 21.1 months, versus 12.7 months with Imfinzi alone. The study enrolled patients whose cancer had not progressed after initial chemoimmunotherapy.
The findings quantify the survival benefit behind the previously announced positive trial and support efforts to expand Imdelltra into earlier treatment. Median progression-free survival was 7.4 months versus 1.9 months. Grade 3 or higher treatment-related adverse events occurred in 20.9% of combination recipients, compared with 10.8% of controls. Amgen plans to discuss the results with regulators; the disclosure is clinical evidence, rather than approval of this maintenance regimen.
