Bayer wins the first Roundup trial following the Supreme Court ruling

A Missouri jury unanimously ruled for Bayer ($BAYN)’s Monsanto unit in a three-plaintiff Roundup case, rejecting design-defect, fraud and negligence claims. It was the first such trial following the US Supreme Court decision that blocked the plaintiffs’ failure-to-warn theory. The outcome gives Bayer an initial trial victory under the changed legal framework, but resolves only the claims in this case.

Reuters reported that the women had alleged the herbicide caused non-Hodgkin lymphoma and were outside Bayer’s proposed $7.25 billion settlement. That broader settlement remains under court review, while approximately 65,000 US claims remain. Bayer said it would continue defending remaining litigation. The verdict does not amount to approval of the settlement or elimination of the company’s wider litigation exposure, and its relevance to other cases will depend on their facts and claims.
