Billington lifts half-year profit 70% and names successor to retiring chief

Billington ($BILN)’s first-half pretax profit increased 70.1% to £2.84 million as revenue rose 29.1% to £53.95 million. The structural-steel specialist benefited from projects with higher steel content, more complex work and improved operating efficiency. EBITDA reached £3.73 million. Cash fell to £12.62 million from £20.53 million at the preceding year-end as working-capital needs and contract timing absorbed funds.

A record order book extends into 2027 and, for some projects, 2028, supported by energy, data-centre and infrastructure demand. Management nevertheless maintained its expectation of full-year results in line with market forecasts, citing competitive pricing. Chief executive Mark Smith will step down on January 1, 2027, with chief operating officer Trevor Taylor succeeding him. Smith will remain an adviser for at least a year, providing continuity during the transition.
