BMO closes finance-business sale and transfers C$11 billion of assets
Bank of Montreal ($BMO) closed the sale of its Transportation Finance and Vendor Finance businesses to Stonepeak. Approximately C$11 billion of loans and leases transferred at closing, representing around 75% of the estimated C$14.5 billion combined portfolio. The remaining balances are expected to move in the first quarter of fiscal 2027, subject to customary conditions.
BMO retains a 19.9% interest in the Stonepeak-managed buyer, allowing it to participate in the businesses’ future performance. They will operate as Longview Capital Solutions, supported during transition by services from BMO. The bank expects the transaction to improve its common equity Tier 1 capital ratio by approximately 23 basis points in fiscal fourth-quarter 2026. The portfolio balances describe transferred financial assets, not the sale price, and the stated capital benefit remains an expectation.
