Bank of Hawaii adds $200 million to buyback authority as margins improve

Bank of Hawaii ($BOH) expanded its share-repurchase authorization by $200 million, bringing remaining authority to $268.7 million after the third-quarter end. It reported third-quarter 2026 net income of $64.3 million, up 0.7% from the second quarter, and diluted earnings of $1.49 per share versus $1.47. Net interest income rose 1.6% sequentially to $156.1 million, with the lending-and-funding margin improving four basis points to 2.82%.

Higher yields as fixed-rate assets repriced supported the improvement, although a shift toward more expensive deposits offset part of the benefit. Nonperforming assets increased by $31.9 million to $43.4 million, mainly because one commercial mortgage stopped accruing interest. Management attributed that issue to the borrower rather than broad portfolio deterioration. The expanded authorization permits future repurchases; it is separate from the $20.2 million actually spent during the quarter.
