Leonardo DRS wins propulsion work for South Korea’s KDDX destroyer

Leonardo DRS ($DRS) received a contract from Doosan Enerbility to provide electric-propulsion equipment for South Korea’s KDDX destroyer program. The package includes permanent-magnet motors and variable-frequency drives from its 100 Series technology platform. Hanwha Ocean is building the lead vessel for the Republic of Korea Navy.

The wider program is expected to include at least six destroyers, but the release does not establish that DRS has firm orders covering every planned ship. No contract value was disclosed. The equipment supports an electric-drive propulsion architecture; that should not be confused with a claim that the destroyers are battery-powered. The announcement adds a new naval-platform award without quantifying the resulting backlog or near-term revenue contribution.
