EchoStar’s Hughes wins gateway role in Nigeria’s satellite program

Hughes, an EchoStar ($ECHO) subsidiary, was selected to provide its JUPITER scalable gateway system for Nigeria’s next-generation NIGCOMSAT-2A and NIGCOMSAT-2B satellites. The contract covers ground infrastructure supporting broadband, enterprise and government services across multiple frequency bands. Preparation begins ahead of satellite launches planned for 2028 and 2029.

Hughes also expects to provide engineering and technical support for local assembly of satellite terminals in Nigeria. The work expands its role from connectivity equipment into support for the country’s domestic manufacturing capability. The contract value was not disclosed, and the planned launches remain future milestones rather than systems already in service. The planned system will support Ka-, Ku- and C-band services for consumers, businesses and government customers.
