Comfort Systems increases profit and backlog as project demand expands

Comfort Systems USA ($FIX) reported third-quarter 2026 revenue of $3.77 billion, compared with $2.45 billion a year earlier. Net income increased to $489 million from $291.6 million, and diluted earnings rose to $13.91 per share from $8.25. Operating cash flow exceeded $1 billion, compared with $553.3 million in the prior-year period.

The mechanical and electrical contractor ended the quarter with $17.81 billion of backlog, up from $14.06 billion at the preceding quarter-end and $9.38 billion a year earlier. Backlog excluding acquired operations was $17.39 billion, showing that most of the expansion came from the existing business. Free cash flow reached $805.6 million. The larger order book supports future workloads, but it represents work awaiting execution rather than revenue already delivered, and management’s positive outlook remains dependent on project schedules.
