GlobalFoundries and Marvell expand optical-chip manufacturing partnership
GlobalFoundries ($GFS) and Marvell ($MRVL) expanded their collaboration to support next-generation optical connectivity for AI infrastructure. The multi-year agreement increases access to silicon-germanium manufacturing capacity at GlobalFoundries’ Burlington, Vermont facility. The companies are targeting optical transceivers and emerging near-packaged and co-packaged optics, which bring optical connections closer to high-performance computing hardware.
The collaboration builds on more than a decade of joint work and supports Marvell’s current 200-gigabit-per-lane products alongside future designs. Its significance is a manufacturing commitment supporting a technology roadmap, rather than a newly disclosed end-customer order. Neither company provided a contract value or a quantified revenue contribution in the announcement. Planned capacity and product-development work should therefore be distinguished from shipments already delivered or sales already recognized.
