GitLab releases new AI-agent tools and lower-cost model options
GitLab’s ($GTLB) 19.4 release adds AI-agent features and expanded controls over usage. A public-beta command-line feature lets developers give an agent an objective to pursue and verify locally. Hosted open-weight models can support up to four times as many model calls per credit, according to the company, potentially lowering the usage cost of selected workflows.
The release also introduces beta tools connecting agents with code reviews, continuous-integration pipelines and vulnerability work. Credit-usage visibility and per-person controls are generally available. The distinction between beta and broadly available functionality matters: not every announced capability has the same release status. The four-times figure concerns calls per credit, not a claim that development work completes four times faster or produces four times the revenue.
