Hutchmed and AstraZeneca’s first-line lung-cancer combination extends disease control
Hutchmed ($HCM) disclosed detailed Phase 3 SANOVO results for Orpathys plus Tagrisso in previously untreated, EGFR-mutated advanced lung cancer with MET overexpression. In the 326-patient Chinese trial, median progression-free survival was 24.9 months with the combination versus 13.8 months with Tagrisso alone, a 44% reduction in the progression-or-death hazard. Median overall survival, a secondary endpoint, was 44.5 versus 34.9 months.
Hutchmed plans to seek an additional Chinese approval for this first-line setting. The combination, jointly developed with AstraZeneca ($AZN), already has a Chinese indication after resistance to EGFR-targeted treatment; SANOVO addresses an earlier treatment stage. Adverse events led 14.8% of combination recipients to discontinue treatment. Fatal adverse events excluding disease progression occurred in 4.3% versus 4.8% of patients. The new application has not yet been approved.
