Hormel agrees $1.055 billion acquisition of chicken specialist Brakebush
Hormel Foods ($HRL) signed a definitive agreement to acquire family-owned Brakebush for approximately $1.055 billion. The value-added chicken producer generated around $1.2 billion of sales over the latest twelve months and operates five production facilities plus two research-and-development centers. The transaction is expected to close in Hormel’s first fiscal quarter of 2027, subject to regulatory approval and customary conditions.
The purchase would expand Hormel’s foodservice portfolio and production capabilities in prepared chicken, bringing additional customer relationships and product-development resources. However, the businesses have not yet been combined. Hormel expects the acquisition to add to core earnings per share beginning in fiscal 2028, rather than promising immediate accretion on completion. Integration performance and the costs of completing the deal will therefore matter alongside the target’s existing sales base; those sales should not yet be counted as Hormel revenue.
