IonQ secures a quantum-computer agreement with Florida International University

Florida International University signed an agreement to bring an IonQ ($IONQ) Superion 256 quantum computer to its campus, with delivery expected in late 2027. The planned installation will support research and training, connecting the university’s work in areas such as materials, drug discovery, energy systems and cybersecurity with access to on-site quantum hardware.

The partners intend to develop educational programs and create opportunities for collaboration with industry. The announcement did not disclose a contract value or quantify IonQ’s expected revenue recognition. It establishes a planned system deployment, not confirmation that the machine is already operating at the university. Proposed research applications also should not be interpreted as proof that commercial quantum advantage has been achieved for those uses.
