Roche quantifies proteinuria reduction for Ionis-licensed sefaxersen
Ionis ($IONS) reported new detailed results from partner Roche’s Phase 3 IMAgINATION trial of sefaxersen in IgA nephropathy. The investigational monthly injection reduced urine protein-to-creatinine ratio by 43.1% versus placebo at 37 weeks, with statistically significant results and consistent effects across prespecified subgroups. The trial enrolled 459 patients receiving optimized standard care, and the companies reported no new safety signals.
Ionis has indirect partner exposure through its license to Roche, with potential regulatory and sales milestones plus royalties; the update does not announce a new payment. The quantified findings add detail to earlier topline success and could support regulatory discussions. However, reduced proteinuria is distinct from proven long-term preservation of kidney function. The blinded trial continues to evaluate that outcome through week 105, and sefaxersen remains investigational.
