Intrepid selected for proposed $139 million grant toward a new fertilizer plant

The U.S. Department of Agriculture selected Intrepid Potash ($IPI)’s proposed sulfate-of-potash facility near Carlsbad, New Mexico, for approximately $139 million in matching funding under its FIELDS program. Current plans envisage capacity of roughly 220,000 tons a year. The facility would add a fertilizer product to Intrepid’s existing portfolio and expand its participation in specialty agricultural inputs.

Selection is an important financing step, but the award has not been finalized and does not mean construction has been approved. Final engineering, completion of the award process, applicable grant conditions and a company investment decision are still required. Intrepid currently targets that decision for late 2027. The potential funding could support the economics of the project, but the company has not disclosed a completed financing package, a firm construction timetable or operating revenue from the proposed facility.
