J&J reports surgery-comparator benefit for Erleada in prostate cancer
Johnson & Johnson ($JNJ) reported new PROTEUS substudy results comparing Erleada plus hormone therapy before and after prostate surgery with surgery alone. Among 408 patients with high-risk localized or locally advanced disease, the regimen reduced the risk of biochemical failure, recurrence, metastasis or death by 62%. At three years, 63% remained event-free, versus 41.4% in the surgery-only group.
The separate comparison adds evidence beyond the main PROTEUS results disclosed earlier and could support treatment expansion into earlier-stage disease. Median event-free survival had not been reached with the regimen, compared with 19.1 months after surgery alone. Grade 3 or 4 treatment-emergent adverse events occurred in 31% versus 22%. Overall-survival follow-up continues, and Erleada plus hormone therapy is not approved for this localized or locally advanced setting.
