Liberty Global joins $875 million funding round for Positron AI
Liberty Global’s ($LBTYA) technology-investment arm backed Positron AI in an oversubscribed $875 million financing round valuing the company at $5 billion. Positron develops hardware and software for AI inference, focusing on memory constraints that can limit the speed and economics of running trained models.
The $875 million figure is the total funding round, not Liberty Global’s individual commitment, which was not disclosed. Positron’s systems use LPDDR5X memory and are designed to work with existing data-center infrastructure. Its next-generation Asimov chip is scheduled for production in the second half of 2027. The investment expands Liberty Global’s AI portfolio, but it does not establish a controlling acquisition or provide a forecast for returns on the investment.
