Lilly’s obesity combination improves weight loss but raises discontinuation rates

Lilly ($LLY) reported that its experimental EloraTZP combination produced average weight loss of up to 23.3% over 48 weeks in a 367-person study involving overweight or obese adults with type 2 diabetes. The highest-dose combination of eloralintide and tirzepatide also reduced A1C by 2.9 percentage points, compared with 14.8% weight loss and a 2.4-point A1C reduction for tirzepatide 15 mg alone.

The findings support a planned move into Phase 3 and could broaden Lilly’s metabolic-disease pipeline. However, gastrointestinal adverse events were more frequent with combination treatment. Adverse-event discontinuations ranged from 10.8% to 27.0% across combination groups, versus 2.9% with tirzepatide. The reported efficacy estimates assume treatment adherence; the combination remains investigational, and larger trials with an optimized dose-escalation schedule are still needed.
