IBM and Lockheed Martin establish a Swiss quantum-computing hub

IBM ($IBM) and Lockheed Martin ($LMT) established a quantum-innovation hub at ETH Zurich through an offset agreement with Switzerland’s defense-procurement agency, armasuisse. The hub plans to host Switzerland’s first IBM Quantum System Two at the Swiss National Supercomputing Center in Lugano. IBM will operate the machine, which is intended to use a Nighthawk processor.

The initiative will provide Swiss industry, startups and researchers with access to quantum resources, expertise and education. The partners also outlined development work in quantum sensing for navigation and additive manufacturing of metallic alloys. Installation of the dedicated system is still planned rather than complete. The announcement expands research infrastructure and industrial collaboration; it does not establish that the system has already delivered a commercial quantum advantage or disclose a new earnings contribution for either listed company.
