Metals One: Barbrook rescue dispute moves to January, with another hearing still ahead
Metals One's 7 September 2026 update sets out the latest legal timetable for the Barbrook gold project.
The two proceedings
The hearing seeking removal of Barbrook's business-rescue practitioner was postponed from 3 September to 7–8 January 2027, following intervention by the landowner Tribal Authority and Belvipoint in support of the Lions Bay rescue plan. A separate application to set aside that plan remains scheduled for 12 October 2026.
Metals One owns 30% of Lions Bay, with an option to acquire another 19.99%. Its exposure is therefore through that investment, rather than direct ownership of all Barbrook assets.
Operational implications
The company says the rescue plan is substantially implemented and continues to target full mining operations later in 2026. Those are management's assessments and intentions; the adjournment does not resolve the outstanding litigation.
The important milestones are October's hearing, evidence of operational readiness and the January proceedings. Investors should assess the restart timetable alongside unresolved legal conditions and the company's actual ownership interest.
