Reddit clears a procedural hurdle in its Anthropic lawsuit

A San Francisco judge allowed three of the five claims brought by Reddit ($RDDT) against Anthropic to proceed in litigation over alleged unauthorized use of platform content to train Claude. The surviving claims concern breach of contract, interference with contract and California's unfair-competition law. Claims for unjust enrichment and trespass to chattels were dismissed as insufficiently specific, but Reddit was given an opportunity to amend them.

The ruling rejects part of Anthropic's attempt to end the case at the pleading stage. It does not establish that Reddit has proved the alleged scraping, won damages or secured a licensing agreement. Reddit said it would continue pursuing unauthorized use of its data, while Anthropic did not immediately respond to the report's request for comment.
