SpaceX and Tesla establish independent committees for potential merger talks

SpaceX ($SPCX) and Tesla ($TSLA) have created special committees of independent directors to examine a possible combination, according to Reuters. Elon Musk confirmed that formal discussions were taking place and described a merger as a good idea. He is excluded from the committees because of his interests in both businesses. No definitive agreement, purchase price, exchange ratio or completion timetable has been announced.

Reuters reported, citing unnamed sources, that one possible structure could involve SpaceX acquiring Tesla. That remains a reported possibility, not an agreed transaction. A combination could bring together capabilities spanning AI software, chips, robotics and connectivity, but the commercial logic does not resolve valuation or governance questions. Any transaction would require shareholder approval, and discussions may end without a deal. Both stocks represent direct exposure to the prospective transaction rather than a generic sector connection.
