Tractor Supply holds outlook as cost pressure reduces earnings
Tractor Supply ($TSCO) reported third-quarter 2026 sales of $3.91 billion, up 5.1%, while comparable sales increased 0.4%. A 0.7% rise in average ticket offset a 0.3% decline in transaction counts. Net income fell 13.3% to $224.7 million, and earnings declined to $0.43 per share as gross margin narrowed to 36.4% from 37.4%.
Higher freight and fuel costs, together with investments in customer value, weighed on profitability. Management maintained full-year 2026 adjusted earnings guidance of $1.90–$2.00 per share and total sales growth of 2.5%–3.5%, with comparable sales expected between a 1% decline and no growth. The company opened 23 Tractor Supply stores and closed 74 Petsense locations during the quarter. Improving sales trends therefore coexist with a lower-margin operating environment and ongoing portfolio changes.
