Volkswagen pauses electric-Golf work at Wolfsburg, Reuters reports
Volkswagen ($VOW3) has suspended development work on the next all-electric Golf at Wolfsburg, according to an internal memo seen by Reuters. The report linked the pause to the main plant’s failure to meet cost targets, including a €300 million shortfall identified in the memo. This is a reported interruption to development, with no permanent cancellation of the model announced in the account.
The development adds a specific operational consequence to cost pressures already disclosed by Volkswagen. Its earlier nine-month 2026 results showed a 3.8% operating return on sales before special items. Management had outlined an approximately €31 billion cost programme covering a simpler model range, lower vehicle and overhead costs, improved factory efficiency and faster technology development to strengthen profitability.
