Vertex adds detailed kidney-response data and launches patient-experience trial

Vertex ($VRTX) released additional Phase 3 RAINIER findings for povetacicept in IgA nephropathy. At week 36, 42.2% of treated participants achieved a urine protein-to-creatinine ratio below 0.5 grams per gram, compared with 6.2% receiving placebo. The company reported consistent effects across patient groups, including a 54.2% proteinuria reduction versus placebo in North America. Both groups also received optimized supportive care.

The new details supplement the previously reported primary result and help characterize the investigational therapy’s potential. Vertex also announced that PAVANT, an open-label Phase 3b study of patients’ experience using the autoinjector, is underway. An FDA decision on possible accelerated approval is targeted for November 30, 2026. Approval remains pending, and the ongoing RAINIER follow-up must assess longer-term kidney-function outcomes beyond the proteinuria measurements.
