Fastly and Comcast integrate edge technology to improve streaming delivery

Fastly ($FSLY) and Comcast ($CMCSA) announced a partnership that embeds Fastly’s programmable edge software into Comcast’s distributed network. The deployment uses Comcast’s network of more than 200 edge-compute centers, bringing content closer to Xfinity customers. The companies aim to reduce latency and increase capacity during large live-streaming events and other periods of concentrated demand.

The architecture is also intended to support online gaming, security functions and emerging AI-inference workloads. Comcast said initial results showed improved delivery performance and lower round-trip latency, but the announcement did not publish a standardized performance benchmark or contract value. The development is an integration of Fastly’s software with Comcast’s existing network assets, not an acquisition. Any financial contribution from the partnership remains unquantified in the companies’ release.
