Google named in lawsuit alleging coordinated AI slowdown

Google ($GOOGL) is among four AI companies named in a proposed US class action alleging that competitors coordinated efforts to slow AI development. Four subscribers to ChatGPT, Claude, Grok or Gemini argue that such an agreement would reduce the value of their paid services. The complaint also names Anthropic, OpenAI and SpaceXAI and seeks to represent subscribers nationwide.

The filing points to public statements about slowing development and strengthening safety measures as evidence for its allegations. The companies did not immediately respond to requests for comment. This is a newly reported lawsuit, not a court finding that an unlawful agreement existed. The proposed class has not been established by the reporting, and no damages award or change to Google's product plans was announced.
