Hill & Smith appoints Sue Clark and sets out senior independent director succession

Hill & Smith announced a board succession plan on 7 September 2026.

Appointments and dates

Sue Clark joins as an additional non-executive director on 2 October and will serve on the nomination, audit and remuneration committees.

She becomes senior independent director on 1 January 2027, succeeding Tony Quinlan. Quinlan remains a non-executive director and chair of the remuneration committee.

Clark brings experience from senior independent director roles at easyJet, Mondi and Imperial Brands.

Governance implications

The staggered timetable provides a period for induction before the senior independent director handover. The role is relevant to board oversight and shareholder engagement, particularly where concerns need an independent channel.

Today's announcement concerns governance continuity. It does not report a change in trading, capital allocation or financial guidance.

The practical follow-up is implementation of the October appointment and January handover, alongside the board's continuing oversight of the group's operating performance and strategy.
