Nokia deploys automated network-attack protection for Spain’s ESpanix

ESpanix deployed Nokia’s ($NOK) Deepfield Defender to help protect its Spanish internet-exchange infrastructure against distributed denial-of-service attacks. The deployment covers facilities in Madrid and Barcelona and supports a network community of more than 200 connected networks. Customers can use the protection as an additional service, rather than every connected network automatically becoming a paying customer.

Nokia says the system combines network telemetry and automated analysis to identify and mitigate attacks within seconds. Mitigation is designed to keep traffic within Spain instead of redirecting it to an external scrubbing service. The announcement confirms an operating deployment, not simply a research partnership. However, the response-time claims come from the supplier, and neither the contract value nor its expected contribution to Nokia’s financial results was disclosed.
